We weaned from breast feeding this week, and in some ways it's monumental and in other ways it's not even worth mentioning. We had basically only been nursing once before bed, the rest of the day I had adapted a "don't offer/don't refuse" stance. He was too busy to nurse during the day so it wasn't a stretch or a fight at all. Then I got the flu and didn't have any milk for a couple of days... a couple of nights ago I tried for one last time, just because. Just because breast feeding was very special for us, because we worked so hard at it in the beginning and just because I remember how lovely all of those cuddle times were. And there was nothing at all for him, that last time. He kept looking up at me pretending to be a dinosaur with that great big toothy grin and his itty bitty baby "Grrwl!" that he makes when he's pretending to be a dinosaur. So I laughed and we said, "Bye bye mama milk!" (that's what he called it.) And then when I was singing his lullabye and tucking him in with a kiss, I couldn't quite keep a few tears from trickling.
Bye bye mama milk.

aw, that's too sweet! A good way to make that transition though. Good for you guys!
I know after MrCutie weaned himself (just wasn't interested any more), and I was folding my next load of laundry, I sat and cried. My nursing bras, and nursing shirts, and nursing gowns, and nursing covers were all 'useless' then, and I sorta felt useless a little too. I already missed that special time together with him and putting away all those clothes, never to be used again (since he was my last kiddo), was an emotional moment for me.
Hugs friend! You did great!!
Precious.
So happy you got to experience such joy through your 18 months.
Thanks for sharing, Leanne!
I wish I had known that Chase's last time was his last time. I kind of thought that he'd nurse again at somepoint but it never happened and now I can't remember that very last time. Sad.
I love the picture of you two. I only wish I would have given breast feeding a chance.
What a great story - thanks for sharing, Leanne! Glad to hear that you got to enjoy your last time nursing (even if it was difficult to let go). It's so cute that Owen calls breast milk "mama milk":). And that photo of you and Owen is amazing - so precious!
You did good, kid. You did good.
